The African Union (AU)

The African Union (AU) is a continental organization comprising 55 member states in Africa. It was established in 2002 to replace the Organization of African Unity (OAU) to promote unity, solidarity, and cooperation among African countries and defend their sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence.

The African Union has several organs, including the Assembly of the Union, the Executive Council, the Permanent Representatives Committee, and the Commission. The Assembly of the Union is the highest decision-making body, comprising all member states' heads of state and government. It meets once a year to set the agenda for the organization. The Executive Council is responsible for implementing the decisions of the Assembly, while the Commission is the AU's secretariat, responsible for implementing the organization's policies and programs.

The African Union has several objectives, including promoting political and economic integration among African countries, promoting peace and security, promoting democracy and human rights, and promoting sustainable development. The organization has also played an essential role in mediating conflicts and promoting peace on the continent.
